Columbia Invitational & “An Evening at Old St. Andrews” celebrates 10 Years of Philanthropy Towards CMH in the Columbia Pacific

A warm cloudy day and mild sunny evening provided an excellent atmosphere for the 70 golfers and 230 evening guests attending the 10th Annual Columbia Invitational Golf Tournament held May 8 at the Astoria Golf & Country Club.

The golfers enjoyed 18 holes of a scramble, best ball tournament which was won for the first time by a team of mostly women: Laura Leebrick, Debbie Hamel and Ginger Emrick, all of Western Oregon Waste, who were assisted by the skills of team member, John Kawasoe, Astoria Golf & Country Club pro.

The evening guests were treated to a silent auction, a dinner of filet mignon chateaubriand and Spring Chinook wild-caught salmon, complimentary wines, a bagpiper and a rousing live auction, featuring private dinner parties, celebrity chefs, a Mexican cruise, Columbia River boat outings, local art and a delicious dessert frenzy. Dr. Bob Wayne, general surgeon at CMH, was the speaker for the Fund-A-Need section of the live auction, which raised $30,000 for a new surgery center at CMH, the Center for Surgical Excellence.

The event raised $148,000 gross which will be used to support projects at CMH, especially the Center for Surgical Excellence. Many community firms showed their support by sponsoring the event. P&C Construction was the Title Sponsor and major sponsors included, Legacy Health System/Trauma Specialists LLP, Anderson Dabrowski Architects, Bradwood Landing LLC, Clatsop Electric, Professional Credit Service, and Medix Ambulance.

Much work was performed by the Foundation Board of Directors and the scores of other volunteers it takes to produce such an event. The Columbia Memorial Hospital Foundation staff worked for months to stage the event and wishes to thank all those who so graciously helped.
